Riding

  • Mood: Anxious
Have you ever wanted something so badly you get all worked up about it? You stress, you go hyper, you don't know where to go because you WANT to! Though, at the same time, it's in some ways scary, it's nagging you, stresses you out to the point where you might feel ill because... Well, you are afraid. Maybe not so much, but the hyper over WANTING kicks decent leveled feelings storm somewhere else.

I just sent requests on information about lessons for instructors on a few stables with icelantic horses. I really want to start to ride, to learn and above all; learn enough so that I become able to ride without beeing nervous to the point where I feel ill when I'm about to sit up, feel like crying if I think I wont manage to go through with a situation... Above all, I want to learn to ride good enough to take care of a horse I will never get. I will have a horse someday, but that horse wont be her. But first, I need to learn to ride properly.

Sweaty hands, racing heart and stressed out body. Just from sending a few mails. This summer I managed to ride qutie a few tours on a horse people where afraid of, yet I'm scared like a hunted rabbit at the thought of riding for an instructor. I've just had so very bad experiences before...

We'll see where it all ends. I got pants for riding yesterday. One step toward making myself to a horse person again.

well, the main thing to remember is to try to remain calm when (if?) you ride. i know it's easier said then done, but the horse will feel your fear, nervousness, whatever, and it in turn will also become afraid and unresponsive. i'm not saying that to stress you out, b/c i was scared for a bit too, but once i got myself calm, my horse would also calm and everything was good. make sure your instructor understands your anxieties and is willing to work on that aspect too when in lessons. b/c if he/she doesn't know before you start, they will push you to do more then you're comfortable with. ^__^ atleast, that's how it works in the US

Well, I got in touch with a place with icelantic horses that have been having lessons specifically for people who have been afraid to ride now and then. ^^ She went on and told me about needing to learn to read the horse, that that most of the time makes people feel more comfortabel. She also talked about things might take time and that I'd have to have patience *laughs*

It sounds good, very good, and I'm trying to book a lesson the 29th this month.

As for the scared part... It's tricky to explain. Sometimes, I feel calm as a cloud riding a horse people tell me is wild and tough while with other horses that people assure me is calm and safe, I feel really scared. Of course, most of the 'wild' horses I wont even want to get up on and so on, but... It's very individual from horse to horse. ^^ Salke, who was crazy according to about everyone, that would rear, buck, get afraid of nothing ALL the time. Her I had no problems with (at least not after the first ten minutes the first time, but not even have met a horse in 4 years can be a big part of it too xD) Then I was still always so crazily nervous before I sat up and we got going. *shrugs* I don't know. It was always fine with her. The other two horses I've really loved to ride was Miranda, a four year old that I was told was nervous and would take any chance to just race away, with or without you. Then there was Honey, the pony that no one dared to ride at the riding school as she was seen as a lil' monster. With her, I didn't have any problems either xD

The most nervous part of riding, is the part where I ride for an instructor in riding school-like envíronments. Too much bad expereince from non-understanding teachers >< People that mock 11 year olds that cry because they are afraid, or just luacgh when your horse ran away with you *shrinkles nose* Those shouldn't be teachers.

I'm using my riding pants every now and then to make them more comfortable... *is already all worked up because of the probablility of a lesson in two weeks*

yay! i'm so glad you found somewhere! from your description, it sounds like a good place to take lessons from, being that they will cater to your anxieties. so when you go, just relax, trust in your instructor and your horse, and you'll have a blast!

and you have to tell me all about it, good or bad, because i'm rooting for you!

I've booked a lesson now. 15.00 29th this month *flails* Ohmy, I'll go nuts before then! xD

They apparently take photos every private lesson, too. That's good, it gives you indications on how you look on the horse x3

You bet I'm gonna tell you all about it xD I'll be wanting to go on and on and on about it, and most of my friends aren't interested in horses <.< Boring people x3
